Just before the outbreak of World War One old Etonian and garage owner Lionel Martin entered his specially built Singer in the then famous hill climb speed event in the little Buckinghamshire village of Aston Clinton. It was so successful that before long enthusiasts were flocking to his premises to have their own replica versions built. It became the start of Aston-Martin, and although Lionel Martin left the company when it went into receivership in 1925 his name now adorns one of the world’s most iconic car brands of all time.
