Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929 as Scuderia Ferrari (stable or team Ferrari) it sponsored amateur drivers whilst preparing and racing Alfa Romeo Grand Prix cars. The first road car that appeared from his Maranello factory was the 125S in 1947 with a 1.5 litre V12. Enzo Ferrari was essentially a racing car man at heart and only very reluctantly did he built road cars to sell; and this was purely to fund his Grand Prix operations. His final road car was the F40 which was released just before his death in 1988. Today is no different, Grand Prix racing is what Ferrari is all about… but we are all glad they still build the road cars too!
