Bentley Motors Ltd was founded in 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley after producing aero engines during WWI. Bentley went on to make some of the most iconic sports models of the 20’s winning the Le Mans 24 hour race in 1924, ’27, ’28, ’29, & ’30 with what some called ‘the fastest trucks in the world’. It was all too much of a financial strain and it sold out to Rolls Royce in 1931 who put a stop to the racing and from then on Bentley became just ‘another’ Rolls Royce car with a different grille. It was not until Volkswagen bought the company in 1989 for £430m that it was given back its own personality producing fast luxurious cars that were once again proud to wear the flying Bentley badge.
