The British Daimler Car Company history is an extremely complicated business but was originally started by engineer F R Simms in Coventry in 1890 but was soon bought out by H J Lawson in 1896. It became the official transportation of royalty in 1898 receiving it’s Royal Warrant in 1908 from Edward VII. They amalgamated with the then famous BSA motorcycles in 1910 and bought out Lanchester Motors in 1930. Alas post WWII Daimler cars went out of fashion and even the Royal family switched to Rolls Royce in the 1950’s, so it was no surprise when Jaguar bought the company in 1960 for 3.4 million pounds. It finally became just a name used for badge engineering of Jaguars top of the range models.
