Soichiro Honda, (1906-1991) opened a workshop employing 12 men to make motorised bicycles in 1946. Their first complete motorcycle with both a frame and engine was the Model ‘D’ of 1949. Amazingly by 1963 they had become the world’s largest motorbike manufacturer and set about producing their first car, the T360, followed closely by a sports model, the S500. Whilst the traditional British car companies struggled to cope with the post WWII economy Honda embarked on a rapid global expansion of their business and today have assembly plants in every corner of the globe and are a major manufacturer of state of the art automobiles.
