The Toyo Kogyo Company of Hiroshima are the manufacturers of the Mazda brand. They started out making three wheeled commercial vehicles in 1931 and didn’t build a car until as late as 1960. In 1967 they pioneered the first producton model with a twin rotary Wankel engine, the 110S GT and have since refined the engine to the extent that it is a credible alternative to the internal combustion engine. The ultimate jewel in their crown however is the world’s most popular sports car… the MX5.
