The Mini was originally invented by Alex Issigonis under project ADO15 for BMC with the Austin Seven and the Morris Mini-Minor being the firstfruits. BMC never made a penny profit from the little car even though the famous Mini Cooper S became a world beating rally car. BMW later reworked the Mini magic for the 21st century opening up a whole new prestige sub-brand that goes from strength to strength.
