Developed between 1995 -2000 within the Rover Group as the classic Mini’s replacement whilst under the ownership of BMW.  When BMW divested itself of Rover in 2000 it decided to take with it the ‘jewel in the crown’, the New MINI project… and start up production at its Oxford factory in April 2001.  A massive hit from day one, it was initially a 3 door hatchback with a 1.4 litre engine (MINI One)  and a 1.6 litre engine (Cooper). Build quality up to usual high German standards alas with prices to match….  gone are the days when Mini’s were thrown together using a hammer.
