Yet another bicycle maker from Coventry turned automobile manufacturer. George Singer produced his first car in 1905 and with the Rootes Brothers selling his cars for him the company prospered. Lionel Martin (of Aston Martin fame) started out by tuning and racing Singer cars… this did the company no harm either. Singer cars survived both World Wars but the strain on its finances took its toll and the company sold out to the Rootes Brothers Corporation in 1956. After this there were no ‘real’ Singers produced as they simply became part of the Rootes badge engineering process.
