In 1859  Vaclav Klement, a  bookseller by trade, started a bicycle repair business in what was Austria-Hungary (now the Czech Republic) and built up a thriving trade in the manufacture of motor cycles and later automobiles. A factory fire in 1924 forced him into partnership with Skoda Works who were arms manufacturers… and Skoda Auto was born. The company survived two world wars and continued production throughout the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s with a range of value for money cars that became the butt of many jokes. In 1991 the Volkswagen Group stepped in and raised the quality to such an extent that today Skoda offer some of the best made cars in the world.Now Skoda have taken their knowledge and skill and started in the world of EV’s with the Skoda Enyaq.
